leakage

What follows are short bits of thought my brain wants out so it can focus on other things.

there's a debate going on in the Metro between a handful of readers over recent abortion legislation (which, by the way, i think needs a new name. "abortion" doesn't express it well enough anymore. It was a good start, but let's not stop there). the argument being carried out by these people (whose use of time i must question, arguing in the letters section of a free newspaper) started on an article about recent legislation for rape cases. i forget the original article, but in the last few issues a few people have been firing back and forth at one another. one woman insists that rape victims constitute a minority of abortions and that most abortions are the result of lazy, irresponsible women. once you're through being disgusted by this notion, let me add my penny to the ring. first: the reason a woman gets an abortion isn't important to me. second: "irresponsible" is subjective and changing with times. I'm getting rather tired of saying the same thing with such monotony, but Tradition is to be understood, not trusted, not lauded as truth. Tradition is an outdated justification for something that was not at that time understood. Can we please get evolution going again in realms other than computer science? i don't give a shit that we can create a computer that can win a TV quiz show, I want HUMANS to keep evolving.

My view on this argument is simple: abortion should exist not just for rape but for accidental pregnancy. i think it's vital that we keep it around and that we improve the techniques behind it, because it's not yet perfect. plan b is a good start, but smart sex still isn't everywhere, i know, i've been guilty. the fact that this one reader sees women as being "lazy and irresponsible" is immaterial to me, the fact of the matter is that they are in no place of preparedness to raise a child in this crazy, fucked up world, and life is hard enough without having parents that don't love you. and i don't think i should have to mention overpopulation or the rapidly diminishing resources we have on this planet. with all this, is abortion really so wrong? it controls population, avoids unnecessary traumas, and allows humans to safely satisfy their most primal emotion, desire, without bringing another unnecessary life into this world. every life is not sacred. every life is just another death. another ditch to dig.

i need to find a way to control my rambling writing. i don't think it gets my thoughts across.

Danny's right. The term "hipster" needs to go. Let's just call people what they are: douchebags.

i can't escape the thought that rape is still very much a part of our society, and that women are still to some extent taught to accept advances from men, to accept rape. it explains why so many in the political and legal realm seem to think a rape victim should be called an "accuser," as if they can't accept what rape is, since most of them were guilty of it at one time or another. i can't claim to be entirely in touch with society at any point, but i can't ignore what i've witnessed in my life, what has led me to this conclusion. i grant that we all seem to be inherently horny and that sex is a great deal of fun, but that's no excuse to think that you can have everyone if you "do it right."

there's a theme coming out here. know what it is? it fucking sucks to be a woman on this planet. isn't life enough a trauma?
